- 해제EMBRACING TRAVAIL is the fruit of my own questions and struggles with regard to Christian feminism as well as evil, sin, and hope. The first eight pages tell my own story in this regard, and several personal anecdotes throughout the book give glimpses into my ongoing journey. At times in the past, women and minorities have been told that their suffering is either deserved or meritorious -- earning them salvation. This has had the effect of keeping those on the "underside" in their place, of valorizing suffering without any real tranformation. While I agree with this critique, my own experience tells me that God is or can be present in oppressive situations. So my effort has been to explore "redemption" from a new angle -- one that keeps the cross in the picture but also highlights the power of new life. The contents are as follows: 1.ENTERING THE DRAMA: Crucified and Crucifiers -- 2.EMBRACING TRAVAIL: Victims and Perpetrators -- 3.EMBRACING TRAVAIL: Surrender and Resistance -- 4.GAINING A VOICE: The Discovery of Discovery -- 5.REDEEMING REDEMPTION: Transforming the Tradition -- 6.A THEOLOGICAL MODEL: Grace, Conversion, and the Law of the Cross -- EPILOGUE: Redemption Revisited
